Understanding Fast and Furious

If members want to know the ins and outs of the Department of Justice Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal, Texas Law Shield recommends checking out former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson’s new website, SharylAttkisson.com.

Attkisson was one of the few national news correspondents who did a thorough, relentless reporting job on Fast and Furious, which was the government’s program of giving guns to Mexican drug cartels. The guns were supposed to be tracked, but weren’t.

Because Attorney General Eric Holder refused to turn over tens of thousands of pages of documents relating to the Fast and Furious program, he was held in contempt of Congress.

President Obama later claimed the documents were covered by executive privilege. A federal judge ruled last October that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee could indeed proceed with a lawsuit against the Justice Department to access certain Fast and Furious documents.

These and other facts are covered in the 2011-2014 Fast and Furious timeline on Attkisson’s website.

Should the courts compel the Justice Department to produce more Fast and Furious documents? Tell us why in the comments section below.
