NBC Report: Treat Intruders “Like Royalty”

Law Shield was disappointed to hear the advice of one Wallace Zeins, who was cited by NBC News’ National Investigative Correspondent Jeff Rossen during a Sept. 9 report entitled, “How to protect your family from home invasion.”

Zeins is described by a New York police detective and hostage negotiator for 22 years. Here’s his weapon of choice for defending against a home invasion:

“Buy a can of wasp hornet spray in the hardware store or the supermarket, keep it by your bedside or the floor,” he said. “It’s more powerful than police Mace.

“The great part is, when you spray, it will go 20 to 25 feet,” Zeins added, noting that an intruder hit with the spray will be temporarily blinded.

Firearms weren’t mentioned as legitimate self-defense options.

We understand that in a gun-hostile state like New York — and particularly in a confiscatory jurisdiction like New York City — speaking about guns for self-defense is verboten.

But in home-defense situations like those described in the report, we’d wager that our members have something better for self defense than hornet spray. As a result, our members won’t be captured and thus need to “treat them [intruders] like royalty.…”

What do you think of NBC’s home-defense advice? Let us hear from you in the comment section.
