Life or Death with Someone Else’s Gun… | Florida

Can you get into trouble for using someone else’s gun for self-defense? Many people who move to Florida from other states are surprised to learn there is no gun registry in Florida. They often ask what will happen to them if they use a spouse’s firearm to protect themselves or their family.

Although the law may differ in other states, in Florida, it does not matter who the owner of the firearm is. If you have a right to use deadly force to defend yourself, you may do so with anyone’s firearm. Whether it is your spouse’s, friend’s, a gun dropped during a struggle belonging to a stranger, or even the assailant—it makes no difference in Florida.
