Just Because You Have A Firearm, Doesn’t Mean You Win The Fight

Texas Law Shield urges our members to remember that simply owning a firearm for self-defense isn’t enough, as the recent case of Michael Jerome Hilliard in Houston points out.

According to a Houston Chronicle report, Hilliard died in a shootout with suspects after they burst into his home in southeast Houston recently.

As the facts currently stand, Hilliard exchanged gunshots with the suspects in the front of the home and outside in the front yard. Police said Hilliard was wounded several times and died at the scene. The suspects escaped.

We would note that while it’s legal in Texas to chase an assailant in certain cases, doing so may not always be the best tactical decision. We urge our members to seek firearms training and defensive/tactical instruction form trained professionals related to this subject.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
