Doctor Shoots Armed Patient, Stops Attack

U.S. Law Shield applauds the valor of Dr. Lee Silverman, a psychiatrist, who was grazed in the temple during a gunfight with a patient who had already fatally shot a caseworker at their hospital complex.

Police said Silverman’s action “saved lives,” despite the hospital having a policy barring anyone except on-duty law enforcement officers from carrying weapons on its campus. The incident occurred at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Yeadon Police Chief Donald Molineux said, “Without that firearm, this guy [the patient] could have went out in the hallway and just walked down the offices until he ran out of ammunition.”
