Law Shield suspects that many of our members went gun shopping this Black Friday — November 28 — and if so, we helped set a record for gun sales.
National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reports are in and totaled, and this past Nov. 28 became the second-highest guns-sales day in history — and the largest Black Friday sales day ever.
NICS, the FBI gun-background-check agency, reported that it processed 175,754 transactions on Nov. 28, which means an average of three transactions were processed every second, triple the normal daily volume, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
The highest day ever was 177,170 background checks on Dec. 21, 2012, one week after the Sandy Hook school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.
Additionally, adjusted numbers for November 2014 (1,329,688) make it the second-highest November (following November 2012) on record for the 16-year-old system.
