Texas Law Shield members seem to be evenly split over choosing a Glock or 1911 as their go-to self-defense handgun, reaction on our Facebook page shows.
We asked our members:
“If you had to choose between the 1911 and the Glock for anything that got thrown at you, what would it be, and why?”
More than 170 members have weighed in on the Texas Law Shield Facebook page, and based on the comments, both the Austrian polymer pistol and the full-size 1911-style handgun have plenty of adherents.
Member Rick Clines wrote, “If the SHTF and I have to pick just one, I gotta go with the Glock. Easy choice. Capacity. To argue a 1911 is more reliable than a Glock is nonsense also. 1911 is a great gun, and it gets the job done, but it’s not anything special. It’s like the Harley Davidson of the gun world. Has the same problems as everything else, breaks down just as much, but because it’s “made in america,” it cost twice as much and has its own cult-like following. People will mortgage their house to get one. Even when it is no better than everything else out there.
Member Joel Yantis wrote, “1911. I’m used to it; I’ve shot it for years. The trigger feels perfect and natural.”
